Some EV'ers paint the inside of their battery box with Rhino Liner to stave off the corrosion. Sharkey, your opinion?

That's very nicely done. I also lurk on a Yahoo! Vandwellers group, and had been dreaming of "stealth dwelling" (Walmart parking lots, industrial areas, street parking outside apartment complexes, but "camouflaged" as a non-occupied work vehicle), so I would probably go for somet...

.

I agree with Granny. I had an F250 with the 460, and I got 9-10 mpg empty. I can't imagine one of those hauling a bus around.

Remember that the diesel may cost more, but it'll use less fuel, the fuel will last longer in the tank without going bad and you'll sell it for more, too.

A white cargo-type van would probably be best for urban hiding. In the parking lot where I work, a motorhome was parked in the rear of the lot and was immediately tagged, but there are white cargo vans parked everywhere. Heavily tint the rear windows, install something to block the view of the cargo...

Hey Sharkey.

Here's a bucket-based mini plant that might generate a little more power. Unfortunately it's pictures only.

So far so good

Looks good so far. I didn't have the double-login issue, and if you're seeing this, I was able to post through the new forums.

Thanks J! I plan to remain stationary, although it would not be a problem to move the trailer short distances. It has a high centre of gravity and the track is just over 5 feet, so low speeds would be desirable, alongside cautious testing of cornering behaviour. Yeah, I was going to ask about that....

I was thinking about a small car engine, such as a 1L 3-cylinder from a Geo Metro or Honda Insight. Much better emissions, quieter and longer lasting. Can you mount a gasoline engine on its side? Or do you have to do something special to lubricate it properly?

Where batteries would really help in a housetruck is in providing electric power for the appliances. If you can cram enough batteries in there to power your electrics for a couple of days, you can eliminate (or greatly reduce) the use of a generator, which produces many times the pollution of the ma...

Diesel Ranger

Time to start a new forum, Sharkey! I'd love to keep up with the progress on this conversion. I loved my '86 Ranger (2.3L, 25 mpg!), but I've had no luck finding a diesel Ranger, and I'd really like to find a small diesel pickup. I don't suppose anybody knows if there are any other diesel models in ...

Cold in SoCal

Hi Elden,

Yeah, hard for people to believe that SoCal can get this cold. We have four inches of snow on the ground still, and the night before last it got down to 13 degrees here (below zero with wind chill.) My mother-in-law's fish pond is over an inch thick with ice.
