hardhats are really only good for minor accidents, dropped bolts and light collisions with steel, or falling debris Which is exactly my point, it would be pretty stupid for anyone on the crew to have a life-changing event simply because someone working above lost their grip on a hammer or dropped a...

That's a lot of work accomplished. I do have some concerns that no one on the crews is wearing proper safety gear, i.e. hard hats. If there was an accident, and any money is exchanging hands for the labor, OSHA would have a shit-fit and someone would get fined big time. Maybe I could see the Amish b...

> wood stove while driving... Think very high winds blowing back down your chimney I can tell you for a fact that in my Housetruck or Woodley's step van, the opposite is true. There is a low-pressure gradient along the roof that causes the stove flue to draw like crazy, the stove starts roaring and...

PROOF that the weather has been LOUSY!
As I was sitting on the couch yesterday morning, watching the rain sheet down, I began thinking about whether or not this has been one of the wettest winter/spring seasons ever. Checking the production of my solar array confirmed that there has been less sunlight than in past years, a LOT less. Norm...

Congratulations to our 50,000th spammer, some unidentified cretin from Santiago, Chile who was attempting to view this topic thread: http://www.mrsharkey.com/forum/vwtp.php?t=459 , titled This Winter's Project, from December of 2007. Hard to believe that there's any interest in transcribing old cass...

Well, it's a lot to try and teach in forum posts. I'd recommend that you pick up some copies of Home Power magazine http://www.homepower.com and begin your education. The very early issues were nut-'n'-bolts build-it-yourself because there was not much in the way of a solar industry and if you wante...

I don't talk about politics. I don't know what Chuck wrote that warranted such a severe reprimand. These words: Butt-licking niggers Butt-licking jews Butt-licking spics Butt-licking faggots Butt-licking krauts never appeared on his post. Well Rudy, I guess you need to go read his post again, becau...

Well, it's pretty simple, Steve, I wasn't all that concerned when it was a thread about how our basic rights as a free society are being eroded by encroaching corporatization of private property. I did begin to have concern when it began to become a rant against immigrants who are perceived as being...

In spite of all the good advice we dispense here, I still think that this page has a lot to teach:

Everything you wanted to know plus the kitchen sink thrown in for good measure.

Re: Solar Charging Kit
Is that worth the price and what's the math on it? Simple division: $299 / 60 watts = $4.98/watt. For less than that price you should be able to go out and buy a name-brand module from a reputable distributor that comes with a 25 year (or more) warranty. If you dig a little, you can get modules for...
