That doesn't look too short.
The only real concern is to make sure you are secure to the frame of the bus and not just the bumper. The bumper is pretty stout but at the end of the day it is only stamped steel.

Re: 1935 Chevy school bus
That looks as if you may have found your answer.
The one other concern I would have is what sort of effort is it going to take to open the hoood? With all of the pieces made of steel I would venture a guess that it isn't going to be light.

Re: 1935 Chevy school bus
As I understand the problem, if you were to mount the hinge of the tilt hood where one would normally put the hinge, as the hood tilts forward the bottom edge of the hood will have an arc that will intersect with the spring hangers long before the hood is open enough to do any good. I have two solut...

Re: 1935 Chevy school bus
If the wraps are installed correctly they have an amazing life span. They can't be installed if the temp is too low or too high. Too low and the glue doesn't set up well. Too high and the wrap becomes difficult to apply because the material starts to sag. If you don't use pressure washers or go thro...

Re: Sprinter Conversion...
A very nice converions very professionally done. I know there are a lot of minimalists out there that are buying into the tiny space dogma. Since I am too short for my weight (I think I would need to be at least 18" taller) small spaces are not my friend. I also noticed the couple who owned the...

Re: 1935 Chevy school bus
Was there a reason outside of the cool factor why you decide to go with an air powered door opener/closer? I would have thought a one piece, outward opening sedan type door would have been a lot easier to build. In addition to easier, not having any door opening/closing hardware intruding into the s...

Re: Another newbe
I hear you about things being sturdy enough to support the weight of those of us who are height challenged in relation to our weight. As someone who weighs more than 300 lbs. I am always careful to examine stuff before I step on or sit down on the stuff. I have broken ladder rungs, chairs, and deck ...

Re: New to Housebus, Ready to Purchase!
It looks as if they have quite the house bus. I couldn't tell for sure but it appeared as if it is all on a Ford chassis. Not my first, second, or third choice for a lot of reasons. Hopefully it has the Cummins 5.9L in it. Hopefully it doesn't have the Brazilian 6.0L in it. Really hope it doesn't ha...

Re: New housetruck in construction
It looks like a nice little space with emphasis on little.
I didn't notice any place to wash up or a place for elimination.

Re: 1935 Chevy school bus
I like your build. It has a lot of neat ideas incorporated into the design. One problem I see with your shore power connection is the location. Every RV pedestal I have ever seen has had the pedestal oriented to line up with the driver's side of the RV. Your shore power cord is going to have to be s...

Re: Another newbe
That looks really sturdy and easy to climb. I have two concerns regarding the design. First, on flat level solid surfaces it should do just fine. If the surface isn't level what have you dreamed up to compensate for when the surface isn't flat and level? Second, on some smooth surfaces like concrete...

Blast from the past
Most of us here have seen and appreciated the Crown that Mr. Sharkey has converted. Back in the day there was a lively discussion as to which bus was a better bus, the Crown or the Gillig. Depending upon whether you were a northern or southern CA person determined which you were since the Gillig was...

Re: Different Wisdom
I was misinformed about the Series 40. In reality it is the IHC DT466/530 engine. Since you have the 8.7L version it is the DT530 which is good for about 300 HP. Either version is a wet sleeve heavy duty diesel engine design in a medium duty sized package. The Allison World Transmissions are all equ...

Re: Different Wisdom
Great looking project! Are you sure about the engine? The DD Series 40 was for all intents and purposes identical to the IHC T444E or the 6.9L/7.3L/Powerstroke used in Ford trucks. The DD Series 50 was a DD Series 60 with two cylinders chopped off. The DD Series 50 was good for about 350 HP. It was ...

Re: Another newbe
I like the install. I assume you have installed this in the area above the engine compartment and accessed through what used to be the emergency exit at the back of the bus. Are you using diesel for fuel for the boiler? There have been many motorcoaches that have burned to the ground due to malfunct...
