Lois, how did you arrange the copper to protect the lettuce? I've heard about this, but never had enough problems to actually get down and do it.

Re: Changes at Miracle Acre
I assume your water heater is electric and the element burned out? Home depot has elements and if they don't, a local plumbing supply does. Just get the specs (voltage, wattage, top element or bottom or both) s/b on a tag somewhere on the heater. You need to buy a special socket (about $15?) for the...

The mantra followed by many (after sad and sorry experiences) is "mix, Mix, MIX"! that resin and hardener. But try not to entrain too much air bubbles.

Lois, you want a 26' Columbia w/the interior taken out, needing refit in all ways, but good sailor and hull sound... I'll give it to you free. Only problem, it's in South San Francisco. I thought I'd get the time to "make it right", but that doesn't look like a good bet anymore. Around her...

> shower surround... Home Depot has fiberglass sheet goods, 4x8, 1/16 thick, pebbled on one side, flat on the other, white and maybe some other color. Not _real_ cheap, but probably worth it if it's close to what you want. They also sell plastic edging to join sheets and for corners. Can't really re...

Re: Changes at Miracle Acre
Lois, The forum (actually any forum) waxes and wanes over time. I've seen it in many others. This one had to redeploy after Sharky decided he didn't want to be a landlord any more. That's a real hard hit for any group, the culture changing, people pissed off wiping everything they can from their pos...

Spring is the OK time for sure. Glad to hear you're mobile again. Don't know how it is around you, but it's bicycle time around Chicago. Couldn't function w/out 4 wheels, but a bike is way healthier and cheaper for small local stuff and just cruising.

Re: Oil, and then what?
Well, how do you figure you can pull large tonnage from the soil each year w/out adding back? "Nature's Way" puts it _all_ back each year - just falls/dies, lays on the ground and rots back in. W/out fertilizer, H2O is the only thing going into that soil and it doesn't have the chemicals a...

Re: Boat Sitting
Sounds like a big change of pace, Lois. The topsides of a boat that doesn't move really do accumulate green stuff - and it can be pretty hard to get off. If mine get too bad I scare up a power washer unless I've got a week and I want to do penance for something... <g>

Re: Oil, and then what?
I'm not sure bio-fuel is a no brainer. That tonnage/acre that you remove to process for fuel comes from the soil - that means you're pretty quick running on empty soil-wise unless you add back - as in fertilize. Another way is crop rotation, but I think that doesn't really replenish everything. IOW,...
