Re: Different Wisdom

Doublestar DSR 266 12-R 22.5. Load range H. $379 each including installation and all taxes. Warehouse man says they've had no returns on this brand in five years. Not sure I believe that, but at least they say they'll stand behind them. Do not know how long that warranty lasts. I'm going to try two....

Re: Different Wisdom

I just pulled the trigger on a pair of Doublestar tires for Monday delivery. Manufactured two weeks ago. I'll post more detail later today.

Re: Different Wisdom

Thanks, Mark. I'll see if my dealer can get either of those. I've already learned that the price difference is dramatic, and if I can get 5 years service out of a much cheaper tire, that's probably the way to go.

Re: Different Wisdom

I've posted misinformation about the difference in load rating between Hankook AH-12 11-R and 12-R tires in 22.5. I must have been comparing the single rating of the 12 to the dual rating of the 11. It was late. The real difference is 775 lbs per tire running dual according to Hankook's web site. Th...

Re: Different Wisdom

Still no tire resolution. I priced 11-R 22.5 tires today, thinking I might change the four back tires, but I was not impressed. The price difference per tire is only $68, the 11-R is significantly shorter so it would drop final gearing when I want to go the other way, AND with both tires in Load Ran...

Re: Different Wisdom

Almost got new tires for the L/R today, but thanks to LuckyChow, I checked the manufacture dates and discovered that they're already two years old. The warehouse did not call back right away, and I missed the tire shop guy's call this afternoon. I don't yet know if I'm getting two new tires this wee...

Re: Fun with the Phantom

Darryl, your conversion surprises and delights me. Love your resourcefulness and the way you think things through. You and I both had "low budget, no frills" as a goal, and yet we take different routes. The only common technique we've chosen is the use of frameless walls. I love what you'v...

Re: Different Wisdom

I'm guessing the old muffler did not have an oxygen sensor downwind of the muffler No O2 sensors in or beyond the muffler. I would have tried this approach even if it had a sensor in the pipe. Would have welded in a bung and hoped for the best. Jack, I won't be able to saw the old muffler until nex...

Re: Different Wisdom

Muffler installation took 8 days. Wasn't working on it all that time, of course, but it took 8 days. Probably not such for you guys, but in my life, the urgent often crowds out the important. But enough whining. Finished bolting up the new muffler about 7 tonight, and we took Sophia out to a local b...

Re: Fun with the Phantom

I need one of those fences. Much better idea than all the measuring and clamping I usually do to rip long panels. I'm pretty good with a free hand circular saw, but nothing beats the clean edge you get from using a guide fence. Don't forget what I told you about Sikaflex 252. Drop that tube in hot, ...

Re: Different Wisdom

New muffler is mostly in. Many distractions have kept me from finishing the installation and from posting about it. I'm pleased with the way the Donaldson truck muffler fits the space and the way it sounds. We can't tell that it's any louder than the original, but it will have to flow better. All I ...

Re: Fun with the Phantom

I KNEW this thread was gonna be good. Don't keep us waiting, it's a real page turner. I'm glad to see those "origination" photos. The rest of you will LOVE to see what Mr. Chow has done with his Phantom, AND he's an electrical guru. Extremely knowledgeable on most bus issues. He's the man ...

Re: Different Wisdom

New muffler arrived today, pre damaged thanks to UPS. I still want them to merge with Federal Express and call the shebang FedUp.

Hope to have an installation report tomorrow night.
