Welcome Jesper the Dane!

I hope you find the information here valuable in your search for alternatives to factory built RV's.

I would like to add a caveat to anything I have posted here about at what one should be looking when one is looking to purchase a bus. My knowledge about buses is limited to those buses that are normally found for sale in North America. Some of the information will transfer across the seas, such as large motorcoaches will have the same sort of weight and height problems in Europe as in America. But your commercial buses are usually built on much better chassis and your school buses are not at all like the school buses we have here.

Regardless of what you decide works best for you, the most important factor is get the vehicle with the best power package possible. Swapping power packages later or major repairs can end up costing lots of time, money, and aggravation.

Good luck and welcome.

Thank you for your welcome, Mark! :)

I have read and replied on your post regarding what bus to purchase, and I forgot the issue of the engines! You're absolutely right, it is important! I'm not at all sure about this, but I have heard that MAN, Scania, Mercedes and Volvo produces most of the engines put in European buses no matter what mark it is???!!! And those factories all have a really good reputation. (It's a MAN engine in the Setras that we are currently looking at).

Frankly I'm no mechanic, and usually I leave the engine service (apart from keeping an eye on oil and water) to professionals - but maybe this is about to change after entering this forum??!!! I find all the technical articles very exciting, and easy to follow, so I might end up getting my hands greasy - who knows?! :D

What's also cool about wrenching on a bus is that the parts are bigger & easier to see (...not to mention the fact that no bus will ever be "yours" until you've shed blood on it, heh)!

Well, then my bus is certainly "mine" cuz not only does it have blood stains all over the wood framing...I also have the knuckles to match

Thanks Stealth! 8)

The Mrs.'s name is Jette. She's a bit of a gypsy too. We lived in a caravan for some time, but due to my kidneyfailure and going into dialysis, we had to get a 'proper' home, or else the authorities wouldn't provide me with the necessary equipment to dialyse myself.

Eventually I got a kidney transplant last year in July, and therefore we have decided to get on the roads again, as I'm doing fine healthwise.

Not exactly what I look like, but this is my team driver. Only thing is, we never seem to get very far down the road when he is on duty. Seem to always end up at the casinos! But hey, he doesn't give me a lot of back talk, since he only has one lip, so I put up with all the other quirks and oddities.

Ok, for real story, read on. Kia had some commercials a few months ago showing a regular sock monkey in the back seat daydreaming about doing different stuff, like water skiing, bowling, ski-doo, and bull riding.

Talked about wanting a full size one and kids found him for birthday present. Good kids!!

I think there must be a family connection, but he won't talk much about it. Very private guy - keeps to himself a lot. And one pet peeve of mine is that he is ALWAYS texting! Makes me crazy. Hard enough to have a conversation but throw in that damn phone and it is impossible!! ....Oh, wait...that's the granddaughter that does that! Nevermind!

Couple friends I work with are from California and the HOV lane is the first thing out of their mouth when they saw it! I guess I may just have to have a road trip to find out if that will work. Yeah, I know, they won't let me get away with it, but it just goes to that 'bad attitude' of mine. Gotta push it.

That should do some serious touring! I'm not sure Europe has enough roads to make good use of that! We got plenty, so you may have to ship it over and do some riding!
