I just got this picture in my head after reading the above of dad taking us kids and the burned out tubes from the TV to the store. He'd plug them into something that had various colors and holes to make sure he was getting the right tubes. lol

Wow! How old are you? We did that too, then I continued the tradition when I got my own TV. (I'm thinking you are somewhat younger than me...)

But then, I kept an old Zenith 19" portable tube type until about 1985 because it just worked. Finally bought a color set when it crapped out. (I had easy access to color tv through friends and family, so I wasn't deprived. Good old set. Wish I had kept it now.
