There's a great way to cook I'd like to share. Some of you may already do it but for those of you who've never heard of it, it's a great way to cook without having to use much of an energy source.

It's done with a Thermos, although now days they do make actual Thermal Cookers. I've seen them anywhere from $60 and up to several hundred dollars. Besides using very little energy, they are peace of mind for those who want to leave their food cooking for several hours or all day without worrying they'll burn their bus down

Here's a few links to get you started. Otherwise just Google: Thermal Cooking, Thermal Cookers

I'm giving you this first link as a general demo to explain the basics although it does advertise for a specific thermal cooker. This method of cooking can be done using a regular stainless Thermos bottle (which is how it originated but then there's always somebody waiting to make a product with a name so it costs more :D

So for all intents and purposes, heat your food in a regular pan and put into a Thermos bottle.....

Here's one I found in a how to survive college.

Get a BIG wide mouth thermos and put in a pkg of Kraft dinner. Top up with boiling water and cap tightly.

In 15 min or so, the pasta will have absorbed the water and you can add everything else, and I'm sure you could cook ordinary elbow pasta this way--when I'm feeling better, I'll experiment.

Yep Lois...that's exactly what I'm talking about. There are lots of other ways to do it like bringing the food to a boil then wrapping the pot in a sleeping bag and put it in a clothes basket to keep it wrapped. Come back a few hours later and walla....crock pot food except cheaper to cook. This can be done on a campfire, wood stove, etc.

I love these kinds of ideas! My first one was made from bricks, heavy duty aluminum foil and a window pane. I think it took something like 4 hours to bake some cookies. Or maybe that was to just heat up. It's been awhile.
