I don't thik it was any kind of car originally, it appears to be built on a truck chassis. The Original (1950's) was built on a Cadillac base, IIRC.

I think I read somewhere that the current model is on a GM P-series chassis (the same as the step vans) or the equivalent chassis now made by Workhorse.
As for the vintage one, I think I read it was built on a Desoto chassis.

Dodge Desoto? As we are on this subject, remember the Hudson Hornet fastback model cars? I will look for some pics.

I got to meet Mr. Oscar Mayer the car this past summer!
(I'm the guy in the bibs, Mr. Oscar is behind me!)
Actually, I just spotted it when going down the highway where it had pulled into a service station. I pulled in and there was a woman taking a pic of it, so I asked her to take a pic of it with me on my camera. She said she would do that if I would take a pic of it with her on her camera.
Done!
Remember the old TV ad?
"I wish I was an Oscar Mayer weiner, for that is what I truly want to be, for if I was an Oscar Mayer weiner, everyone would be in love with me!"

Since it is built on a MH chassis, why not just make it a little bigger and make a cool, one-off MH out of it? I'd love to drive it around especially if it had a few of the creature comforts I have become accustomed to in my old age- comfortable bed, kitchen stuff, bathroom with shower, and a genset of course!
I wonder what happens to the old ones when they are through with them?

Talk about wasting a big weiner....that long thing only seats 6 people?
I have a photo of one I took of in town last summer. Never got to see the inside but the owner of McDonalds came out to get his photo in front of it
