The posting says the motor is toast, and that a V-8 would be a good choice to install. Actually, there would be a better choice for torque and economy if a person put a Ford 300 CID inline 6-cylinder gas engine back in the bus. There are nice intake manifolds and exhaust headers made for the 300 six, it can be made to be quite a performer.

Here are some pictures of that Ford. It is a beauty. I love the raised roof. I agree about that 300 straight six engine. I think that was the best engine Ford ever made. I'm not so sure how economical it would be. I have had a few straight sixes. They came in a variety of vehicles that I once owned. Three 60's Ramblers , a Chevy van, and a 1958 Ford pickup. I have seen cases where a small V8 will get the same or better gas mileage. There is one thing, though, that is indisputable, and that is that those straight six engines are way stronger than a V8 of approximate cubic inch displacement.

I sure like the seats that guy put in the Ford! The other old bus is about a 1957 Flxible Clipper-style Starliner. The Starliner had a raised roof with an overhead window accross the roof at the front of the raised portion. I have some friends up in the small NE Oregon town of Lostine who have operated a fleet of school and touring buses for many many years, and they had a couple of Flxible buses. (You can google them, Moffit Brothers Transportation Company.)

They used to have a '57 Flxible Starliner that I have riden in several times in the past. It was a beaut! About 8-10 years ago I helped them sell it on EbayMotors for $25,000. It was DOT inspected and approved, ready for the road when it left, in immacualte shape and was still in service up to the day it left. Sure hated to see it go! Wish I had it now!!

The Moffit's are selling a very nice MCI bus with a fairly new 8V71 motor, auto transmission equipped 54-pass bus with restroom for $10,000. I can't remember the exact year, about an '85 I think?
