Trailer gross less than, say, 2000#? Then a 4cyl. I prefer 2WD cuz again, cheaper. Might actually be hard to find such an animal these days of mucho macho hype. Since I've been hanging around nissandiesel.org for a while, myself I'd start by looking for an SD25, settle for and SD22; might be hard to get one though.

Camper shell w/side openings makes everything work better.

There. $.02 for free. <g>

Hey,
I have a SD22 powered Datsun pickup. I used to pull a 4' by 8' trailer made out of the front end of a '39 Ford Coupe. The trailer is so heavy duty that we pulled two face cords stacked on it. The point is the little Datsun was able to pull that load comfortably and still get 30mpg.
Ironically I tried to sell it a few months back, no takers. Now if the bugger was out west where Rufus is, it would have been snapped up.

Apparently, I have to be beaten with a stick until I remember to bring the camera out to the old bush and take a picture of the trailer. I am NOT ignoring you, I just keep forgetting the camera.
