Ghost of the Green Tortoise

First off, I'm new here. I knew Mr. Sharkey back in the 80's when I was a kid, working at a local radio station.
I'm a big fan of old buses, especially old GMC models from the 40's and 50's. I'd love to build a custom coach from one, but I'm currently too deep into other endeavors to make it happen right now. I've got an old Class C RV that I'm constantly modifying and playing with. It's no bus or housetruck by any stretch, but it's good cheap fun and a good way to work out bugs for the future project.

Anyway, I sent the following link to Mr. Sharkey and he thought I should share it with the rest of you. Enjoy:

Thanks cycho, and welcome. I enjoyed my visit to the garage, and remembering trips I never took to places I've never been. Just seeing pics of a 318 Jimmy brings back memories of my Dad's trucking days when I was too young to drive, but got to ride in the buddy-seat for quite a bunch of miles.
Thanks again.
Stan

All of which goes to show how careful you must be today, the ghosts of the past may find your forum in 25 years and register...

The articulated bus is an Ickarus, originally manufactured in Hungary: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ikarus_Bus . Ickarus and Crown had an association building and marketing transit buses back in the 1980's ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crown_Coach_Corporation - Scroll down to "Transit buses").

Often wondered what happened to the Green Tortoise; amazed to find it still exists, 'though in a vastly different format. In the '70s it was the cheapest way to travel from Eugene to L.A. If you were a real cheapskate, you didn't have to bring anything ... all you had to do was breathedeeply.
Cyclepsycho, why are you still in Eugene?

CyclePsycho- I really enjoyed your site! I like what you did with your old 'Wing! It looks like you are a good 'ghost' from Sharkey's past!

And thanks for the trip to the Green Tortoise bus site! Brings back lots of memories from the 'good old days'! 8)

That brought back fond memories for me also! I traveled Green Tortoise and had a great trip! Live music always prevailed over radio, no "tobacco" smoking inside (anything else was fine) It was around 1am traveling north after crashing a pizza parlor...the bus voted and decided to go skinny dipping in Lake Shasta...a full moon and a warm night!
Bus lines arent like they used to be! :)

Sharkey are you sure that artic is an Ikarus?

It sure looks like an old time Eagle made by Kassbohrer.
