Thinking of converting a 1980(?) 'Nash school bus?

Post by Tom »

Hi everyone,

My church will be getting rid of their full size school bus (40ft?) with all the seats removed and it is used as box truck. It has a great running 8.2l diesel with a automatic tranny.

I would like to rebody it with the styling of a 57 Chevy Nomad or a 40's
station wagon. The interior of the bus would be set up like a race trailor
20% living space 80% open room for cargo.

Now how would I register this thing, anybody in NY? It won't see any commercial hauling of cargo. It will be used as a giant suv for going out on camping trips and going to car shows. Could I get rid of the commercial licencing on it?
Thanks in advance, Tom

Changing the regie

Post by Dennis The Bus Dweller »

Hi Tom

First off, Change the reggie to an RV. Where in N.Y. are you? Im out here on Long Island. I live full time in my school bus. I love it. I got some big time solar and a wind turbine to keep me in power. You can build a great home/SUV in that size bus. Mine is 32 feet inside and in planing a major roof raising soon.
Peace along the way
