if one stays put for an extended period of time in the housetruck - say a few months - is there any precautions to take with the engine & running gear? does the gas go stale? tires flatten out?

thats a good question; I think bias tires (anyone still use them?) get dented, but I was told once you roll with them they'll "round out". I think gas will last a few months, then you gotta put the red junk in it. Diesel lasts longer, I think.

Radial tires will, over time, bend the belts from sitting in one place.

If the belts get bent, the next time you get up to speed you have the possiblity of the belts seperating. Not fun!

If you know for sure you are not going to be moving any time soon, it isn't a bad idea to make the engine intake and exhaust varmint and critter proof. Nests inside engines become real messy when the engine starts.

Given enough time, all fuel will go bad. The worst problem is moisture from condensation. You will have fewer problems with condensation if you park the vehicle with a full tank.

Don't let the start batteries go dead or dry. Both conditions can lead to premature battery failure.

The more you can protect the expensive parts for the weather and critters the fewer problems you will have getting things to start later.
