That's a way cool bicycle. It's a Surly Big Dummy, made specifically for hauling cargo.

Great read as usual, Rudy,

Rudy,

Headache's right about the importance of a physical movement routine. I used to think those old Chinese gesturing in the park at the crack of dawn were just advertising their Chinese-ness and gossiping but now I know different - from personal experience. Some basic movement and gentle stretching every day really helps; it's also easier with a group.

I looks like this forum thread is becoming a blog.

Yesterday was Tuesday. It was sunny and the temperature was in the high 70s.

Zac and I tested 40 microphone cables and 20 instrument cables that he uses for his sound equipment. We found only four malfunctioning cables.

Later that evening we went to a club where I sat in with the musicians. Before we went, however, I had to change clothes.

It was when I managed to get my shirt off that I made a startling discovery.

Welcome to Rudy's medical section. Today I am going to talk about the injury to my arm.

As you know, on Saturday, I hurt my left shoulder badly.

Following the suggestion of many people, I have been gently stretching and moving my left arm and shoulder.

On Tuesday, I was actually able to use it for minimal tasks.

Today (Wednesday) I have an even greater range of movement. It is definitely healing.

Yesterday I had to change my clothes. Having had my shirt on for three days, I had no clue what my arm looked like.

I could feel that the swelling had subsided considerably. I was optimistic.

I got my shirt off and looked at the inside of my arm.

What I saw was horrifying. It frightened me tremendously. My skin from my armpit to my elbow was black.

Here are the graphic pictures.

I am back from today's chores.

The first thing I did was videotape Zac playing in a tennis match. After that, we went and had some lunch.

Then we got a tire for his car. After that we went to the grocery store. Groceries are more expensive here than in Tn.

Now on to "the rest of the story".

Yesterday I showed Zac and Marha my arm. Zac suggested that I should see a doctor.

It just so happens that Marha's uncle is a doctor. He lives close to here.

We drove over to his house. He was happy to look at my arm.

He did several stress tests and determined that neither my shoulder, rotor cuff, bicep, or tricep was torn.

He also tested lateral and forward movements of my arm and shoulder.

He also suggested that I maintain stretching exercises and that I use my arm as much as I am able.

I asked the doctor about the discoloration. He said that it would go away.

All in all, it is a good prognosis.

There is hardly any pain today, and I can actually carry things in my left arm.

Now for the last of today's posts.

Last evening, Zac and I went to hear some friends who were playing at a club.

It was two guitar player/singers. Normally when they play this Tuesday night duo, they do a lot of blues music.

Instantly they asked me to sit in. I told them that all I could play that evening was the mandolin.

They loved what I played with them.

Funny thing is I have never played blues mandolin before.

Other guests joined in during the course of the evening. There was a harmonica player, another guitar player/singer, another singer, and a guy who played the Dumbek drum.

It was a blast and it is the main reason I moved here. That is to play music with great musicians on a weekly basis, and work towards starting my own little band.

I have missed this scene for so many years.

Happy Happy Rudy

I gotta say though, the weather is mighty strange here.

I'll keep in touch with more adventures in the life of the Blue Bird bus.

I dropped a water heater on my ankle about two weeks ago and the foot did the same thing. When it starts to heal, it is likely to start itching. A lot.
