Sounds and looks like a fun project, Dennis. I researched tiny houses extensively before we decided to buy another bus. I think they're great for folks who only want a little mobility.

Is that your housebus in one photo?

I'm gonna give the tiny house seen a run for its money. They look like fun and and I'm way over due for a creative project :D Yep that's my 63 GMC 4106 that I call home here on "RUNWAY 24" in Montauk ny. It's a great old rig with a newly overhauled 8-71 with an oldschool 4 speed. It's got about 60k on it. There are pic's posted on here somewhere from years ago

Dennis, the GM looks fine, and from what I've seen of your work, I'm sure the tiny house will be great. Anxious to watch the build. In fact, I'm still thinking of building one as a means to raise capital. All the material is locally available, and I could probably finish it over the winter and spring. I think I could make a modest profit, but my larger motivation is acquiring that much money in a lump. I believe covering material cost and paying my labor is certainly doable.

What length is your trailer? Are you using someone's plans or making it up? Do you mind talking about costs as you go?

All the best on this project.

Looks like you have visitors... I think I see your bus at the southwest end of that track south of the runway. Boats, trailers, and other motorhomes move in on you?

I got a chance to do some pre-cutting today 8) I did jacks for 14 windows and 1 door, headers and sills, 4 exterior corners, 3 interior corners and all the floor joists. I screwed it all with these really tuff hardened screws. The 2 skylights showed up yesterday and the windows should be delivered on the 16th

Hi Dennis ... good looking pole hauler ... :) ... N. Americans would be pleased, could move the whole village on one travois ... Tiny Houses now has a two story unit ... folding roof for transport ... interesting idea ...
Anxious to see your's come together.

I got a little work done today
Image
These are some great hardened self tapping screws
Image
4" floor beams and 4" foil backed foam board which I did but forgot to take pic's. those outer spaces will get a full 6" of foam board when I finish the stainless at the bottom
Image
The four outside corners have hollow spots
Image
so I filled them with foam board

These are the stainless drill screws I used to fasten the stainless sheets to the trailer
Image

24 ga stainless for the inner fender wells
Image

this is the last piece of the stainless bottom panels
Image

the foam board down the center was a walk in the park but the outer perimeter was a little trouble because of the extra "L" steel I put in to beef things up a little
Image
Image

its a rap for today 8)
Image

I would have gotten a lot more done if the traffic wasn't so heavy on my driveway 8)

After the fender wells are installed im taking 10 days off to really go after it. I have to start a big renovation around the end of august which will carry me through to the winter. In the spring im going to try and find me a big boy dually pickup to pull the "Dew Drop Inn" around. im thinking ford "7.3" powerstroke or a ram/cummins. whichever I find a good deal on 8)

Just remember that it is not just having enough engine power that is important in a tow vehicle. You also need to have enough weight in the tow vehicle, to not get pushed around by the trailer. You can increase the weight of the tow vehicle by adding ballast, if necessary.
