Well, folks, It has become time for this Rudy guy to hit the sack. I still don't have a carbide saw. I guess I will have to count the dog hairs on my floor, as there are no sheep around here, and I can't cut any zees. I will have some more photos up for you tomorrow, as well as some tales of Phil's mountain climbing and his sky diving adventures. Thanks for your support. Rudy
Now, it is time to tell you about a couple of Phil's adventures.
K2? That is the sister mountain to Mount Everest. There is some debate as to which peak is taller. He climbed K2. It took two years to get the permit to climb. He went with perhaps a dozen other climbers.
They each hired two Sherpas. Sherpas are local people who help the climbers by guiding them and carrying supplies. Yes, he made it to the top. The same week he was doing K2, was when 10 climbers were lost while climbing Everest.
Phil used to do sky diving as well. My dad was a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne. Phil must have gotten those "thrill genes" from my dad. I was never that ambitious. I put my energy in to playing music. Well, Phil's skydiving instructor plummeted to his death, after having made over a thousand jumps. Neither of his chutes opened. The lesson learned there is to ALWAYS pack your own chute. Having lost his instructor to that tragic fall, Phil decided to give up parachuting.
Mountain climbing is still part of his life, though. He has a 28 foot climbing wall in his house.
