1942 GMC Bus
Im in the midst of trying to find the ID/Build Tag for our 1942 GMC 30' Bus. It was originally built for the military in 42 then after the war it was part of the Civil Air Defense fleet (communication command). It was then sold to the gentlmen I just purchased it from who said the tag (he thought remembering) was on the right side, on the bulkhead under the windshield....which I have torn everything apart looking for but is not to be found? Any ideas from anyone?
Thanks in advance - Chuck autoart66@gmail.com

Most military vehicles had the ID tags on the dash boards. I have a '72 Kaiser Deuce 6X6 and that is where the tag is. I have a friend that has a '41 Stude deuce 6X6 that has the ID tag in almost the same location on his dash. Perhaps someone removed it as a keepsake or some such thing. Very unhandy for someone needing to title a military vehicle! On the '81 IH Ward bus I had that was an ex-military vehicle, the big ID tag was attached to the left inside wall up near the ceiling above the driver's seat.

Hi Rudy,
Here's a picture of the bus - La Ghost. The 86 year old electrical engineer who spent ten years meticulously building her was a very dedicated, accomplished and a driven individual and the bus proves all of these points. When I went to inspect the bus originally and was considering a purchase it turned out quickly to be a personally interview of me! - as a person, mechanic & enthusiast. It was not your average "test drive" by any means. As he wrote in the original newspaper sales ad for La Ghost "not for dummies". At 86 he doesn't mince words - he's earned the right to say what ever he feels like and does.
La Ghost was named by him and when asked about the names origin he said with a smile "anything that damn old should be long dead and buried". My road has just begun with La Ghost and it's already been an amazing trip from meeting and becoming friends with him (the builder) and his wife (85 years old) to my maiden voyage in La Ghost.... a 4 1/2 hour drive including straight over Donner Pass, past Lake Tahoe and the heart of the Sierra Nevada's! Thats a real testimony to my confidence in the bus and its builder.
Thank you for the suggestions...getting through california DMV might be the hardest part of this excursion - Chuck[/img]
