Wow, what an interesting video, very worthwhile! I have always known it is not very wise to weld on a rim with a tire mounted on it, but even with the valve stem removed, it can build heat and pressure so quickly that it can still explode!
Our place in SW Idaho is on a somewhat busy highway with alot of truck traffic. Several times we have had the house shaken and the windows rattled due to truck tires exploding as the truck passes. Rubber is thrown everywhere, and often the tire takes out the mudflaps, fenders, etc in the process.
You are right Chuck, tires can be a very lethal bomb!
