DB, I suggest you read the thread titled "New Life". That will answer your questions. :D (yes).

I really got to tell you guys, this was one of the hardest jobs I have ever done. If my Uncle hadn't have helped, I wouldn't have been able to get the old u-joints out. Two of them were still the originals, the caps shattered trying to drive them out, had to use a heavy sledge hammer, and my uncle is a big guy. Good thing I insisted on changing all of them before I drove it any more. One of them had no bearings under one of the caps, dust fell out. It was a piece of cake to put back together. I put one of the new u-joints in all by myself, clipped it and what not, while my Uncle was working on the carrier bearing, and getting the old one off.

Who ever suggested finding a mechanic and paying him fifty bucks to do the job for me: My Uncle wants to know where that mechanic is that would have done this job that cheap. As it is, my uncle charged me way more than that (it cost me a big ole hug and kiss on the cheek), and I still thought the price was fair. I would have gladly paid double or triple that.

I am thankful this job is done. Now I'm off to get the air pressure checked in the tires before I head out this weekend to get my bus.
Thanks again for all the help, really.

Kudos to you and your uncle for getting the nasty old job done- I have seen some U-joints that had to be torched off- they were so old, corroded and stuck! :x

But now you can rest a little easier on the trip knowing you won't lose one of the u-joints in some little out of the way town or beside the road miles from help and an auto parts store! :)
