Crownin' Around

Post by Jones'n4chrome »

So I want get a 10 speed Road Ranger for the 57 Crown. The Allison 5 speed that's in it now is a nice transmission, but I want a 10 speed
standard trans.
So I find out about one for sale 200 miles away. The last thing I have time for right now, is a road trip, but I figure what the heck, lets go.

When I get there, It looks good to me, but it has this big green thing stuck to the end of it.
The guy selling it knows nothing about it. I don't know what to do so I buy it anyway, jump in the truck and jam home.
I hope I don't regret this later.
Here's some pics.

The big green thing is a 1969 Crown. It has a Detroit 6-71 engine, and a 10 speed trans.

Sweet score! Did you drive it home? Is it a running machine?

Ted,

I'm not sure if those are speakers or not.

Dennis,

I didn't pick it up yet, it need's at least one battery and one tire before I would drive it 200 miles.
It also needs some glass, the drivers side windshield is trashed, and a few side ones are cracked. The good thing is, this bus is about 30 to 45 minutes from Patrick Young's house, there is a very good chance he will have the parts I need.

This bus runs great. It has a Detroit 6-71, after driving it for a few blocks it cleaned out and started running real crisp, also it stopped smoking.
There is no way I want to take this trans out now, this bus is too clean.

Here is a link to Patrick's site.

Those little black things above the windows, yep, those appear to be speakers. School buses with intercom systems and radios have them.
Chuck, nice green thing there - attached to that transmission.

Yep.....with all them speakers all you gotta do is pull the seats, install the 8-track and you can throw a rave.....

Whats a Crownin' Around bus without a clown?
This Clown has been hanging around at the corner of Vineland Av. & Burbank Blvd. for as long as I can remember.
Between the two white vertical posts is a beer keg, it has "Keg Beer" painted on it.
I shot this photo as I was driving by about two weeks ago.
This clown has been in several movies.

Here is a link I found on the web, I like the footnote in red.

Does anyone know where I can find a used left windshield for my bus?
I can buy a new one if I have to, but they cost a lot more money. It is the curved one.

Have you checked with Patrick Young of http://www.fresnoalliance.com/wheelchairproject fame? He may have one, or have a lead on one...

Hi Bob,

I will be using this bus as a camper, but it will be a low budget conversion.
I don't have any new pics, but I will try to post some soon. Do you have any pics from when you rode in this bus? Do you live in Lemoore?
