Doug, I went to the site about the church windows. That was some mighty good work. It was cool to see the old techniques with thick glass being used. Few people do that nowadays. Now, I would like to mention that the last post about your new trailer has the photos too wide and I can't load them up fully either. If you use TinyPic to get them on the forum, you will notice that after you acquire them from your photo files, and before you upload them, you can resize them as an option. There are several sizes that you can make them. One is 640 by 480. Just click that before you upload and it will do everything automatically. I just learned about that feature a few days ago when I needed to resize some photos for the forum. As you may know you can always go back and edit your postings. On an another subject, I may have some things sold this week so that I can mail out the last installment of music CDs. In the immortal words of that Blue Bird bus builder, "Keep on Bussin". Rudy

SSCrapper, weather ...

Post by GoodClue »

Hello Dennis, Rudy, et all ...
First, Dennis ... the Incinolet has been a god-send, especially with our latest weather ... I could have gotten out but the roads were worse where I was going, so snuggled up with the cat, built up the fire, worked on my computer, music ... two days of actual relaxation ... and having the crapper literally saved my butt. So simple to use ... place a liner, do your business, press the foot pedal to drop the contents into the burner, the clamshell trapdoors open and close ... push a button and it does it's thing ... truly an ingenious device, no downside yet ...
I'm thinking of putting it in the new trailer, but no rush ... I've got an exercise machine in the portable garage ... so after doing my business I work out a bit.
I need to re-lace my 40 year old Sherpa snow shoes so the trainer works great in keeping me active, and am ready to trade my wax x-country skis for some waxless fishscales ... the temp varies too much during the day to get the wax right, and I'm just getting too old to think stripping/waxing is fun ... just want to enjoy the glide ...
Rudy ... I get carried away, I'll watch the photo sizes ... I asked Sharkey early on about not seeing the full page, now I browse with Google Chrome ... helps tremendously ...
The last two days worth of snow, a foot here ... I was lucky, my friends got 3 feet ...

The last bus image shows my dwindling woodpile ... got to get on that this next warm spell ...

And here are some captures from a film short I did in April 97 when I took my ex to her hometown in Illinois just before she left for Hawaii ...
The turkeys worked their way out of a crop field about a hundred yards away, the extent of my movie camera's zoom, why the res. is not so great ... thought of posting the film clip on YouTube and posting a link, it's fun to watch the Tom's herding the hens, but figured you'd enjoy their displays ...

Rudy, Dennis, and all ... Sharkey's site is a blast ... again, Thank You Sharkey ... I'll try to return more of the favors, like Dennis ... Cool to have met people like you ...

Doug, The bus pictures remind me of Connecticut winters. BRRR! Those turkey photos are what I want to capture here. I saw them this morning while I was driving out but did not have my camera. I was only 15 feet away too. I guess I will have to carry my camera in my truck. I have many pictures of your bus in my motorhome file and am glad to get these new ones. They are special to me because they are of your bus. I can brag that I know you. Rudy

Incinolet On Sale ...

Post by GoodClue »

Hello to anyone interested in the Incinolet Toilet ...

They are having their yearly sale now ... I would have saved $130 had I waited to order mine ... glad I didn't, was immediately put to use ...

www.incinolet.com

I have nothing but good so say about the unit. I purchased the Model RV ...
has, as I said before, literally saved my butt when snow kept me from going off property to find facilities.

... and NO black water holding tank to deal with :!:

With my Model RV, 120 volt, 1800 watt unit you Do need a dedicated 20 amp GFIC circuit, three pronged 115/20 amp plug ... one blade turned horizontal ... match your receptical to the included plug. I modified the box breaker with the correct 20 amp GFIC ... and my generator was already set up to handle the unit ... which keeps me portable :)

So far, very happy with the unit, I'll mention shortcomings when discovered.

How often do you have to incinerate and how long do you need to run the generator for each incineration?

Dennis TBD ...
You incinerate after each use ... suggested cycle is 1 1/2 hours ... for minimal use ... one person ... comes from the factory with timer set at 1 hour, explains how to set the timer in the manual.

Says can be used several times in succession, just start the cycle again when done.

The 1 1/2 hour is suggested to guarantee complete incineration, so if run by generator it should be run for the full cycle. Right now I am running off an electrical power pole box.

GoodClue, I alternate between Google Chrome and Mozzila Firefox. Sometimes one works and sometimes the other one works. Sometimes neither one of them works. I am out in the boonies, and my cell phone most often does not work. I think it is because of the amount of people using the airwaves at any particular time. I really don't understand that though. It also may have to do with the weather. I know that FM radio reception is heavily affected by cloud mass. Lately, I am getting terrible reception. I may just have to bring my laptop to town soon and do my communications there.

Internet connection ...

Post by GoodClue »

Rudy,
I've had AOL with IE since the beginning, and alternate with Google Chrome ... AOL has some JAVA issues and other probs, but have done eBay and other sites for so long I don't want to have to change and contact everyone about the changes ... I'll use it till it doesn't work anymore.
I do alternate with Chrome, and use Chrome more than Firefox, alternating with AOL when needed. Sometimes I surf totally with Chrome, but all my correspondence comes to AOL.

I don't have landline phone or wireless at my current place, and had terrible cellular Internet connections when I tried Cricket, so I go online when I pass through Woodland Park. Friends own WildWings, a Chicken shack, where I used to push an open mic to the web but now use as my principle wireless hotspot and don't participate in the local music scene ... became terrilby inbred and clickish. They were happy to have me set up and broadcast them but not let me join in the music.
I stop here when I go to Colorado Springs to take Mom shopping, ten miles further, Mondays and Thursdays, and come here when I need to get online otherwise ... it's the closest hotspot to my bus, about 15 miles, so I plan shopping, etc. for the trip.

Weather, sunspots, distance from broadcast towers, all can be factors in good or bad reception, and if you're sharing bandwidth with people nearby that can definitely affect your reception. I also get poor AM/FM and TV reception because of my location. I put a small booster antenna on the back door of my bus to improve my cellular reception and it helped with the phone ... and radio if I use my body as an antenna. I've a steel pin in my left arm, and if I hold it in just the right position ...

TV, I put an antenna outside at the rear of my bus after determining the direction of the broadcast towers and manage to get ABC fairly well, and one PBS station sometimes good, sometimes poorly, also depending on weather ... OK with me, I need to put more time into my work, tho I like PBS for education and world news, much more balanced than network stuff. I know you don't watch TV, and really I admire your discipline ... I have terrible sleep patterns, many times not able to sleep till 5 or so in the AM, and then up at 7 or earlier for the day, so the TV becomes white noise ... amazing, tho, what's sometimes broadcast at those weird hours, especially on PBS ... lots of music.

I'm now looking for a newer laptop ... my Dell Inspiron 8600 works beautifully but is over 5 years old ... I don't want to suddenly lose the software and capabilities I've grown accustomed to, would like to have a backup, but can't afford the best. My Dell has a Centrino processor that has functioned exceptionally well ... I throw heavy audio and video processing at it along with intensive graphics and it's never whimpered tho it may take a while to process heavy video ... it always does it. I may contact Dell about refurbished units ... seems I have one of the better they made, and would like to stick with Windows for all the software, etc I have ... but am leaning towards a newer dual core Centrino processer with dedicated graphics ram ... the mobile procsessors run so much cooler than the others, one of the reasons for the longevity of my unit.

A friend invested in a top of the line Toshiba with all the goodies ... has been in the shop so often is slated to be returned when he gets it out, and like I said, all my software is Windows so investing in an Apple is out of the question. I've not had all the problems with Window and Dell that a lot seem to have ... I clean my system and defrag regularly, and XP has worked fine ... will be a while before I buy, anyone have any suggestions with decent PCs will be considered, including good places to buy.

Anyway, just rambling thoughts responding to your reply ... 8)

Doug,
I've just upgraded my Macbook, by getting a bigger hard drive and more ram added. It was much cheaper than buying a new computer and more powerful as well.

I went from 120GB hard drive, to 500GB and from 1GB ram, to 4 GB. The new version only has a 160GB hard drive and 2GB ram.

I also bought a firewire case and stuck the old hard drive in it, so really I added an extra 500GB capacity when I switched hard drives. I also installed the latest operating system, so it works just like a new one.

All up it cost me about $600 New Zealand dollars against about $2,000 for the new model.

I strongly recommend looking at the feasibility of upgrading what you already have, if you are happy with it.

Doug,

There's nothing that wams my heart like the thought of burning a turd!

Sorry, couldn't resist. :banghead: Seriously, that is a pretty neat way of dealing with waste.

I love your bus, too. I can sure see how a coat or two of paint would really make that old girl pop! I love those classic old lines and your roof raise was very complimentary to it. Niely done!

Thanks folks ... stuartcnz, Mark B ... and all ...

Gives me food for thought ... upgrading my old unit ... I've 1.2 gig Ram, can only go to 2 gig, but would only help if I added the max. Came with a 40 gig HD ... I use external drives to expand, have close to a Teribyte if I added them all together ... the unit only has 2 USB ports, but has all the other I/Os ... firewire, parallel, S vid, serial, let's me run my drawing tablet freeing a USB ... InfraRed, 2nd monitor ... some you can't get anymore ... and a great 1600x1200 res screen if I need it, I usually run 1200x800 on the 15.4" screen ...

The hard drive may be it's weakest part, time wise ... that and more RAM probably all I can do but, as you say, an inexpensive upgrade.
I don't intend on not using the unit, just fear the inevitable ... and would like a faster processor for the video, and HD is getting to be the thing ... thanks for the input ...

And thanks, Mark B ... found her in a junk yard, couldn't let her go ... Got some rust issues above the windshield to take care of, a deck to add to the rear ... then comes the paint ... then the Smithsonian ... :!:
