If you're serious about getting the van back in drivable condition you'll want to give Jim Ince a call at Eurotech.

He drove those vans all over the far east before he setup shop in Oregon and started selling Unimog parts. If there is anyone in North America who can help you find the parts you need it's Jim.
A word of warning from someone who has owned way too many Mercedes, there is no such thing as a cheap Mercedes, they will all cost you serious money. You will not be able to find parts for this van at the local auto parts place as they were never sold here through official MB channels to the best of my knowledge.
The only other channel you might try is ebay. They are used in the UK so you might be able to find someone selling used parts and if you're feeling really adventurous you can always try ebay Germany but language might become an issue.
