1965 Mercedes Cargo Van
Hi Gang,
I do have another vehicle here suitable for living out of, but I use it as my garden shed.
I bought my 1965 Mercedes van from my late friend Marcel for $50, his only request was that I keep it until it rusts away.
Well it isn't doing that yet, but does need serious help on the roof, as it used to have a heavy luggage rack and too much stuff got put up there and the roof seams weakened and rusted along each side. Going to try pop riveting another roof over the first if I can get the material, or build a structure around it to keep the rain off.
So I actually have TWO projects, its just that I haven't felt well enough to work on Mercy for a while. Later this Spring though, I'll get busy and rent the necessary tools and see what I can do about fixing the roof and repairing one skylight, and I've got to put a vent in because there isn't one, but the big thing for Mercy this year is I am going to have someone come and cut me a window hole on the south side of her for more light, I've already got the window.
So, anyone else got a Mercedes? Running or not, mines not.
HUGS

Yep, Mr. Sharkey's sense of humor has me hanging around upside down.
I love my Mercy, and keeping her in Marcel's memory is my way of honoring the wishes of a kind friend.
My neighbor with the 1977 mint condition Mercedes convertible car laughs at me when I remind him that I have a Mercedes too, but it's all in fun and when I start DOING something with Mercy, then he'll be quiet--and amazed that a mere FEMALE, is out in the back of an old van, putting in a new floor.
Plywood floor-same in Pit Stop, easily replaceable, and lucky for me, Mercy has all her glass, I am striking out left, right, and center trying to find windows for Pit Stop. Guess Rick and I will have to go through our window pile and see what we can make work instead.
Mercy's new window is one of those sorta bay windows with a shelf you can put small plants on-ideal for her use as my garden shed.
Cheers

PS. Pictures soon

My van's full name is "Marcel's Mercy" and Marcel liked roses, so I am going to make up some Rose stencils with Printmaster and put a border of roses around her middle, and on the doors. The name goes on the back, because she's parked nose in-
You guys should have been here the day we brought her home. The tow truck left her in the middle of the driveway and we had to gently "bunt" her into position with a GMC cube van, one hard bunt landed her front wheels in the ditch between my neighbor's place and here, so we had to use the GM as an anchor to come-along her back out because the van couldn't pull her out because it was lighter than her-she's 20 ft long and over 8 ft tall, and very heavy.
Oh Dusty, I need a door hinge for her drivers door. Do you have one and would you part with it?
Cheers

Well, it's a 1965, and I'm not going out in the dark to read the VIN # with a flashlight and get the model, but basically its the type that were used as delivery vans by wholesale houses and such, then it became a camper, then it got stripped out and used for storage, which is how it was when I got it.
I'll take a pic tomorrow and see if Rudy will post it for me.
RUDY-I apologize for the picture of Brussels sprouts!

Like the one in the rear of the first picture, 20 feet long, 2 doors at the back and sliding drivers and passengers doors, door from cab to the back of the van.
