I love to see the way everyone is blaming me  , for all the work they're doing. Doug blames me for getting the welder out, Steve blames me for the chair he built, who else?
Very nice vette Doug. Hey, I don't have anything like that cart! That is nice. Looks like you are getting ready to do some welding. But back to that vette. I keep thinking how much fun it would be to drive it. Then, my practical side comes in, and I know I would not be driving it long if I had it, as I would have way too many tickets.
Steve, I used to have a T-top, would take the tops off any time it wasn't snowing or raining. It didn't matter how much snow was on the ground, just as long as none was coming down. That's what they make heaters for. Funny thing was, to drive with the tops off in the summer required using the a/c because you'd cook with the sun beating down. I had the most fun in that little car.

I had a real cherry '81 Vette once, and the ultimate luxury was driving with the t-tops off and running the A/C in the summer! Talk about decadent!

Almost as good as my '91 Mustang GT convertible. Same thing, driving with the top down and the windows up with the A/C on, with The Beach Boys "California Girls" blasting thru the stereo.

Ahh, those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end...... :(

On second thought, when I was a young HS teacher in SoCal (Northridge in The Valley) in the late '70's, I had a very sweet '75 Trans Am with SD455, WS6 package, white with the blue bird on the hood, loaded. Crusing down Topanga canyon on the way to the beach with Dire Straights "The Sultans of Swing" blasting on the stereo- ahhh, could life have been sweeter?

Hi Dennis,

Which high school in Northridge did you teach at? I grew up in Northridge.

Chuck- I taught at San Fernando Valley Acd, a private high school on the corner of White Oak, and- now I can't remember the other street

Anyway, we lived at the Matador Apts at 9600 Reseda Blvd, real close to CSNorthridge.

Dennis,

The house I grew up in was on the south side of Roscoe, one block west of White Oak.

So you lived very close to that health food restaurant, what's the name of that place again?
Oh yeah, Cupids Hot Dogs! That's it. :D

The valley was a fun place back then.

Down the road from the school towards Sepulveda Blvd was a house where a guy had a '63 Maserati (sp?) model 3000 (?) 2+2 that had a very nice fresh paint job, new red leather upholstery, and low original miles on it's V-12 engine. All for only $2,500. I thought about it for 6 months until he finally sold the car to someone else. Awh shucks, it was probably overpriced anyway!

In 1980 a buddy and I were playing golf out near Thousand Oaks one Sunday afternoon. After the game we went to a local doughnut shop to have our after-game doughnut and critique our game. While sitting there I picked up a copy of the local Thrifty Nickel and scanned the "autos for sale" section.

A person had listed a "nice 1966 GTO Convertible, original owner, low miles, $2,500" with an address close to where we were. So I called on the pay phone (this was pre-cell phone days!) and got directions to the place.
When we got there, sitting in the driveway was this pristine all white '66 Goat convertible. It only had about 60,000 original miles, all it's life it had been in SoCal and garaged when not in use! The women who owned it said she had bought it new when she graduated from college, she ordered it from the factory with the 389 Tri-power, no power steering, a 4-spd on the floor, white paint, white top, and white interior. To get it ready to sell, she had it repainted white at great expense, plus she had a new top put on and had it reupholstered, and threw in a tuneup and oil change, plus new tires! Does it get any better then this folks?

Oh yes, it does! :o I asked the lady if she was asking $2,500 and she said "Yes I am, but I would take $1,500 cash for the car if you were interested!"

Now the bad news- I actually had the money, could have afforded it! My wife and I both worked, made good money, and the wife would not have complained about having a Goat in the family.

 I would like to have something to blame my lack of foresight, or stupidity on- but I don't! Just myself, that all! I did not buy the car, and have been kicking myself ever since. (And I like to think that my momma didn't raise no fool!)
